Education

If there’s a school, why is it sometimes hard to get girls to attend?

  1. There are many cultural, background, and physical aspects that may get in the way for girls attending School.
Cultural traditions sometimes under value women and thusly don’t believe they are smart enough or capable enough to be educated. They could also be fearful, and rightly so, that education might disrupt their traditional Patriarchies would be disrupted and eliminated, (this being one of the major targets of many western aid groups). Thusly they may forbid women to attend school so that they can either maintain power or save the time and effort.

Background can also impede women’s ability to attend school. If their family is poor the child may be forced, since there is not enough income for the family to survive otherwise, to aid the family by taking a job rather than attending school. Also, uneducated parents may feel that education is a waste of time and therefore forbid their child from attending school.

Physical aspects also come into play. Since School buses are expensive to buy, run, and maintain, poor countries may not be able to offer their services; thusly women would have to walk vast distances every day to attend school. Also the path those women might take might not be safe since there might be militant groups waiting to steal their things or worse. Thusly women may opt to stay at home where it is safe and don’t have to walk as much.

  2. In my opinion girls have a harder time getting into schools because of old stereotypes and beliefs. Although it seems like centuries ago it was not too long ago when women had inferior rights to men. They were not able to vote and were in many cases denied certain jobs. Although we are way more advanced then we once were there are still some residual effects from the past. Sadly there are some people out there that still believe that women are inferior.

This of course is much more prevalent abroad in other countries. People still see men as smarter and more worthy of education. In many countries the woman's place in the household is to raise the children and do other daily jobs.

In my opinion it is sad there are still countries who live like this. We as Americans have moved forward and our society has benefited as a whole. I think that other countries will soon realize this, and when they do the world will become a better place as a whole.

  3. It is hard to get girls to attend school because 1. it may be too far away and traveling there could result in harm to the girl. The harm could be verbal or physical. 2. The girls often feel that they can help their families more by getting a job rather than going to school.

  4. Getting girls to attend school can be a daunting task because of the stereotypes and degradation they endure. In some societies women are seen as under qualified or incapable of attaining anything that could be of use; they are only seen as housewives. Men are responsible for most, if not all, of these accusations which can destroy a woman's self image. When women begin to believe that they are only what men make them out to be they lose ambition to go to school to become someone that can make a difference. Obviously this is ridiculous that human beings are actually treated this way and thankfully the United States has made great steps toward correcting this fallacy

  5. It’s hard to get girls to attend because of financial issues and their parents may have different priorities for them. It could be that the family wants the girl to take more charge and responsibility in homemaking than getting educated. And it can also be due to the family lacking the funds to send girls to school.

  6. If there is a school, sometimes it is harder to get girls to attend because of the lack of influence and support. Many young girls aren’t encouraged to attend school if they know that their mothers didn’t attend school either. Girls, from a young age, are also taught the “roles” of women, one being that they stay home and do house chores. With this, girls feel like they have no place in school, causing them not to attend school.

  7. There are many reasons for why girls are having trouble getting education in todays world. It makes it that much harder for girls in poor and rural areas where education may not be and emphasis in that culture. In many of these cultures the whole family is required to work in order to survive in a place where there are minimal resources. This allows for work to often be put before education in many societies because education just may not be the best economic decision for the family. Girls are usually put under more pressure in the family rather then girls because in the majority of these societies the boys are put in front of the girls and if anything it will be the boys receiving education rather then the girls.

It is all about the society one lives in and the upbringing they are brought up in. People are shaped mostly by their family and environment and if this is a society where education is not a priority then it won't be the kids either. Girls may often be set at a lower standard then boys and it may often discourage girls from pursuing educational opportunities. It may very often be other factors affecting the opportunity of education for girls rather then their personal interest. It is important to understand the there are many factors influencing these girls that has affected their educational interests.

  8. It is hard to get girls to attend school because of the society that these girls were brought up in. From a young age they were not encouraged to become educated and in the culture that they were brought up in they had very traditional roles. Education did not fit into that role which made it difficult for young women and girls to become educated.

  9. In poor countries the girls are not given a fair opportunity to educationally progress. There is more of an emphasis for the boys to foster into intelligent individuals. Girls grow up behind the scene of the boys because they lack in an importance in these societies. Some cultures possess a strong conviction that males are superior to women. Women are not really encouraged to go to school. Stereotypically women do not receive the same treatment as men and they are rarely seen as anything more than a housewife. America has made a major advancement with giving women equal rights as men.

  10. In third world countries, school is very different than the picture used to describe this blogpost. Women often are mistreated within school through bullying and sexual harassment, and rather than seeking higher education, they instead seek for an escape from their lives of harassment and bullying.

Beyond that, women must also have to deal with actually physically getting to the school, and the ability to pay for all of the things that go along with school such as; books, pens, paper, etc. Not all families in third world countries are fortunate enough to be able to afford to send their children to school.

  11. School is the best solution to fight poverty and inequality in third world countries. It takes a lot of effort to build schools and it takes even more efforts to put students in school. Parents want their children to get good education, however, those children also needs to go to work to help with their family's financial issues. Most kids can't finish their education because they need to work and provide food and shelter for their family. Furthermore, women face many hardship due to inequality. Parents would put their son to school and leave their daughters to provide the family. To motivate students to go to school, organizations sometime bribe parents to let their children stay in school.

  12. It’s hard to get girls to attend school because of the possible dangers that arise while traveling to school. Girls have to face the possibility of getting assaulted while walking to a school, miles away from their home. This invokes fear in girls, and so it’s easier for them to just stay home and do domestic chores.
In addition to the lack of security while traveling to school, girls lack the financial assistance to pursue their education. Since there’s a social stigma placed on girls with education, parents believe that boys would benefit more from education than girls. This is why families, even when poor, are more willing to put their sons through education than their daughters. They unfortunately believe that a girl’s time is better spent doing domestic chores and earning some source of income for the family than studying.

  13. In some other countries they treat women much differently than what most people are used to. Women are often mistreated and not given the same opportunities as men because people view men as more worthy of education. Instead of women going to school they might find it more useful to help the family out and get a job. The parents of the girls want the girls to be skilled in housekeeping and other womanly skills in order to get married so school is not as important. Also in most of these places that these things happen are in poverty. Most of the time these people have a lot of children and to send all of them to school would require a lot of wealth which most of them do not have.

  14. I believe it is difficult for girls to attend school because of multiple reasons: financial issues, assault, hardships that take root from gender inequality. In many countries entire families must all work and get meager pay in order to sustain themselves so their daughters have little to no time for school and study. The lack of funding in these poor countries also makes it hard for transportation or protection to be provided for students, and because the female students are female that subjects them to potential sexual assault if they decide to go to school instead of going to work near home or working at home as some people have said above. All of this needs to be fixed because without educating the socially impoverished female populace will be set even further back from becoming recognized as equals to men in these poor countries. They need to know that gender bias is wrong and what they can do to fight it.

  15. It's hard for girls to go to school because of distance, family and work. Many of the schools are far away and girls run the risk of getting assaulted when they make the journey. Often the family does not want them to attend school because of cultural reasons. Girls are also needed to do housework and help out in the fields.

  16. In many countries, the role of women is viewed differently than the American society. I believe this is the main reason that it is hard for women to attend school. Other countries, classify the duties of women as a housekeeper and taking care of their children. This perspective of women limits the many opportunities that they can achieve with education. Thus, many people will think women do not need education to acquire the proper housekeeping skills and taking care of children. Also, they think if women attend school nobody would be able to fulfill the duties of taking care of the house and children.

  17. It can be hard for women to attend school for a variety of reasons. Socio-economic and cultural reasons top the list. Patriarchal societies, for the most part, hold an interest in maintaining the male-dominant status quo. Even in well off families girls will typically receive a sub par education if any at all in comparison to their brothers. In more extreme circumstances girls might be turned away, threatened or even physically assaulted at the doors of a school, if a school even exists. Tradition holds that women are subservient to men, suited for tasks that require minimal education or intellectual capacity. The powers that be wouldn't exactly be doing themselves a favor by educating those who they wish to keep subservient now would they?

  18. In many cultures, it is custumary that the women's place is at home. Their job is to take care of the house, raise the children and cook for their family, while the men go out to find work. Men are also responsible for making the decisions and represents the family politically, and therefore to be educated. Young girls are taught this at a young age, but more importantly, they don't know anything else. Most don't even consider going to school or trying to get a job because they have never seen a woman do that. Studies show that educating women solves many of societies problems. One of these being that the birth rates go down. The world would be a much better place with women being educated and able to participate in all affairs.

  19. It can be difficult to get girls to attend schools for many reasons. In my opinion, the primary reason is probably cultural customs that prevent girls from getting an education. Many cultures hold men as the only ones who can receive an education, and also hold women to traditional roles, primarily as a homemaker or mother, which according to some cultures requires no formal education. Traditions that men represent the home as not only the political voice, and therefore are the only ones that need to be educated in such regards, as well as that men are considered to be the breadwinners for the family and should pay for the food on the table, also further encourage men be educated rather than women.

  20. Cultural backgrounds and the norms of the area that certain females live in can prevent them from getting an education. Many cultures make the woman the home body. The men are the bread winners and the woman simply keeps the house clean, raise the children, and cook. Also the fact that the men of these cultures want to be able to control the woman is probably why women cannot get an education, simply pure ridiculous ignorance on the man's part. They don't want the females in their culture to have any independence.
